stick a fork in me

The owner of my dream apartment sold it to a woman with a piano for 3.9M pesitos. I'm back to square one in the apartment hunt. I'm taking down these stupid pictures now. It's a running joke at the office that things in Mexico work like a Chinese finger trap, so it's best to just relax, enjoy the 2 hour cab ride home, and don't sweat it.

Some other quirky Mexico things. The mops they use are just big towels folded over and are what looks like stapled to a wooden pole. The brooms are made of twigs. Yesterday I saw about 15 cops watching about 15 prisoners sweep leaves in a park. They meticulously mop outdoor tiles. My coworkers were in a cab last week and their driver got in a fist fight at an intersection. It's really amazing how they drive--Pepe, our armed friend that takes us to work is absolutely a magician. I went to see my first movie last night with my friend Ivan. We saw the new Bond (ehhh). But the best part was they have a formal curtain that they lower after the ads, then immediately raise again for the previews, creating a dramatic moment between the ad for Coca Light and High School Musical 4. But the tickets are only about $4USD and you can take outside food in.

I apologize if I am sounding negative, I don't mean to. I am frustrated with the apartment situation, but otherwise things are really going well. I'm going to see Nada Surf tomorrow and possibly again on Thursday for an acoustic show. I really only know one song of theirs, but it's a really good one so I guess I'll see the band twice. Other good news is the food. Oh my the food. I usually wouldn't go out to eat during the week because we have such substantial 4 course lunches provided, but I've made friends with the visiting business consultants in town and they like to go out to dinner on their expense accounts. So I've tagged along on the dining adventures. Also, on the weekends I've found great cafes with brunch that my coworker Scott really encourages. We usually have to explain how to make a mimosa, but they put it together fine. I do a power licuado in the mornings, either fresa y platano or anti-gripal. I don't think anyone really cares except for Patrick but I am in a sharing mood.

What else!? The restored vintage cars around here are impeccable. See my photo album over there to the right for the VW ambulance. But that's a bad example, I'll take a photo next time I see a Benz. Here is a quote from "Lost in Wonderland" that is opposite of what I encounter:

eek!
I just found out that American cars aren't sold in China because they don't meet regulations. Are you kidding me??? China has higher emissions standards than America? If this country can be this polluted with higher regulations, what is to become of us?

Okay it's bed time. I am going to try and climb a volcano over the Thanksgiving weekend. Thanksgiving day I am going to see Hot Chip in my tights and leopard jacket. Not kidding.
