We Are Stardust

Red beans and rice, peaches, grilled chicken, cheese gritz, blueberry pancakes, blueberry waffles, pecan and banana pancakes, grilled peanut butter and banana sandwiches (in Memphis, it was Elvis' favourite), BBQ sandwiches... Pretty heavy but oh so delicious...

People are a lot more friendly in general and just talk to you in the street, greet you or compliment you on your outfit while passing by. Everyone seems very laid back. Everyone drives and very often we're the only people walking on the broad sidewalks and people look at us like we're crazy. Public transport pretty much sucks. People are very loud, warm and funny. They are either completely paranoid or they leave their front door unlocked day and night. There's a lot of talk about "good" and "bad" neighbourhoods which usually seems to translate into black and white neighbourhoods. Everything is so much bigger than in Europe, the buildings, the streets, the cars and definitely the meal portions. People think the baseball is simple and don't understand the rules of soccer, whereas for us it's exactly the other way around. Buildings that are about 100 or 150 years old are respectfully referred to as "very old", when in Europe they would probably be called "modern".
